Did you know hot chocolate originated from the Mayans? As early as 500 BC, the Mayans were drinking chocolate made from ground-up cocoa seeds mixed with water, cornmeal, and chili peppers. Their recipe is a little different than my recipe, but I can see how some people might love that sweet/spicy mix. My hot chocolate is indulgent, delicious, comforting, and perfect for those cold winters nights when you want a sweet pick-me-up drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 cup really good quality semi sweet chocolate chips
  • Marshmallows (homemade if you want extra yummy)

Instructions

  • Mix milk and half and half over low heat while continuously stirring to keep milk from burning
  • Slowly add chocolate chips and continue stirring to melt slowly
  • Stir until almost (but not all) of the chocolate chips are melted. This recipe leaves little chunks of chocolate in the mug
  • Pour into mugs and serve with marsh mellows and whipping cream on top
